For a long time, Russia was Valio's primary export destination. The foreign foods import ban in 2014 has changed the nature of the business significantly. Now the majority of Valio products sold in Russia are produced locally.
Valio Baltia manufactures and sells high-quality popular milk products to the markets of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. As in Finland, people in the Baltic countries value local products made from local milk, due to which Valio Baltia is a strongly local operator.
Valio has been operating in the US since 1958. Finlandia Cheese Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Valio that primarily sells and markets Valio cheese and butter imported from Finland under the Finlandia® brand in the United States.
Valio Sverige Ab in Sweden was established in 1994, when Valio Group wanted to grow into a more international operator and offer Swedish customers and consumers tasty and high-quality products made from Finnish milk.
China has been a destination country for Valio's milk and whey powder exports for a long time. Operations in the country have grown gradually. Since 2008, Valio has had a subsidiary in China – Valio Shanghai Ltd. – which sells and markets quality milk powders for the industrial sector and consumers.
