Valio is stepping up its phased adoption of 100% renewable milk cartons. Made entirely of renewable raw materials they are now being introduced for Valio Luomu™ organic milks, too. Consumers have welcomed our latest ecological packaging initiative.
While the large-scale roll-out of entirely renewable milk cartons has to be implemented gradually due to the still limited availability of plant-based plastics, the share of renewable raw materials in other Valio milk cartons continues to increase up to almost 90%.
Listening to consumers
Category Manager Mirva Tollet explained that a trial using 100% renewable cartons for Valio Eila® skimmed milk drinks in early 2015 attracted overwhelmingly positive consumer feedback.
More than 1500 consumers responded to an online survey with over 80 per cent describing the completely renewable packages as a pioneering and environmentally sound move. More than 90 per cent want Valio to pursue this innovation in milk cartons and most said renewable packages increased their enthusiasm for Valio products.
The cartons use wood fibre cardboard and plastic parts made of plant-based ethanol, and are recycled in the normal way with the plastic caps going for energy fraction.
