Finnish dairy company Valio Ltd has further expanded its portfolio of lactose free milk products. Valio launched the world’s first totally lactose free dairy products in 2001 and remains the market leader in Europe.
Starting with the lactose free milk drink, the company has over the years developed a range of lactose free dairy products comprising more than 400 SKUs. Valio’s patented lactose free process technology is now being applied to the new instant Valio Eila® lactose free milk powders.
Serving the needs of growing lactose free business
Valio makes lactose free products available to the increasing business worldwide, supplying Valio Eila® lactose free milk powders to customers for use in their own manufacturing processes, and licensing Valio Eila® lactose free milk technology. The latest additions to the lactose free range are the fully soluble Valio Eila® lactose free instant milk powders.
Food and beverage manufacturers have long been using Valio lactose free milk powders in a variety of applications, ranging from milk chocolate, dairy desserts and ice creams to ready meals, soups and sauces, and even pet foods. Valio is now serving customers in need of instant milk powders, eg. manufacturers of drink powder blends.
Benefits of Valio Eila® lactose free milk powders
Valio developed lactose free milk powders using the same technology as lactose free milk drinks. Valio Eila® lactose free milk powders are used just like regular milk powders, rendering the products lactose free while retaining all the goodness of milk and the natural milky taste. The high protein content enables a 20-25% lower dosage than regular milk powders in the majority of applications.
|Valio Eila® lactose free SMP||Typical lactose free SMP (lactose hydrolysed)||Valio SMP (regular)|
|Carbohydrates (total) %||38||53||53|
|Lactose||‹ 0.1||‹ 0.1||53|
|Fat||‹ 1||‹ 1||‹ 1|
|Dosage g/litre for reconstituted milk||80||100||100|
The residual lactose content of Valio Eila® milk powders is less than 0.1% which enables the lactose free claim for most applications. For example, in Nordic countries the limit on ready-to-eat foods is 0.01%, whereas in Germany and Switzerland the figure is 0.1%.
Valio Eila® lactose free milk powders are also gaining ground in other areas like pet foods and powdered health drinks. The high protein and low carbohydrate content makes Valio Eila® milk powders the ideal choice for sports and diet nutrition (e.g. low sugar). The lower carbohydrate content makes Valio Eila® lactose free milk powders easier to handle and store.
