Export of lactose free dairy products from Finland to Russia approved

Russia announced late on 20.8.2014 afternoon that it will permit exports of lactose free dairy products from the EU countries to Russia. Valio’s lactose free products are popular in Russia and a growing product category there. Lactose free fresh dairy products accounted for around ten percent of the volume of Valio’s exports to Russia.

- There is a large number of lactose intolerant consumers in Russia who have discovered Valio’s lactose free Valio products which enable them to enjoy the fresh taste of dairy. Valio is happy to be able to serve Russian consumers again, says Mika Koskinen, who heads up Valio’s operations in Russia.

The number of people suffering from lactose intolerance varies in different parts of Russia, but the total is estimated to be as high as 60 million.

- Valio will resume its exports of  lactose free milks and yogurths to Russia as soon as possible. The specific product portfolio is specified later, says Executive Vice President Mika Koskinen.

- Russia’s decision to permit the import of lactose free dairy products is extremely significant, especially from the fresh dairy products perspective, says Tiina Mattila-Sandholm, Executive Vice President responsible for Valio’s fresh dairy products business.

Valio re-examines the possible affects of the permission to export lactose free products on the adaptation measures set in motion in Finland and in Russia.
