Valio investments totalled 127 million euros in 2016, accounting for 24% (2015: 24.6%) of all those made by the Finnish food industry (source: EK). 95.5% of Valio’s investments were allocated to Finland.

The most significant investments were:

  • New snacks plant in Riihimäki
  • Chemicals reception at Haapavesi
  • Cleaning centre at Lapinlahti plant 1
  • Boiler plant for solid fuels at the Oulu dairy
  • Boiler plant for solid fuels at the Jyväskylä dairy
  • Pre-concentration of milk at the Lapinlahti plant

Investments to reduce environmental impacts in Finland totalled 1.1 million euros. Environmental costs recorded as expenses totalled 12.8 million euros. The most significant investments to reduce environmental impacts were related to decreasing waste water loading at the Haapavesi plant and reducing the environmental risks posed by the Riihimäki dairy to the local waste water purification plant.
