# Value creation for owners

# Creating value for owners and vitality for all of Finland







Valio is a company owned by Finnish dairy farmers. Valio’s core mission is to maximize the value of the raw material – milk – produced by its owners, process it into high quality products, and promote the future of Finnish milk production. Valio’s success in the market directly translates to the farms’ income and ability to invest. When you choose a Valio product, you are supporting domestic food production and jobs throughout Finland.

## **Coope**r**ative model as the foundation of value creation**  

Valio is a limited liability company that is owned by 13 cooperatives. Valio has a procurement agreement with five of these cooperatives, meaning that a total of some 3,000 dairy farms associated with these cooperatives supply milk to Valio. These five procurement cooperatives own more than 99 percent of Valio Group. The other eight cooperatives are Valio’s competitors. This model ensures that decision-making power and profits remain with the producers themselves.

### Milk payment price

Valio pays its owner-cooperatives the highest possible price for raw milk. This is the primary way of distributing the added value generated by the business.

### Sustainability bonus

As part of its value creation, Valio pays its owners a sustainability bonus for actions that promote animal welfare and reduce emissions. In 2025, nearly 60 million euros in sustainability bonuses were paid.

### Ensuring continuity

The aim of long-term value creation is to enable farms to develop and to be passed on to future generations.

## Economic and social impact

Valio is one of Finland’s leading food producers and employer in rural areas. Valio is a major employer in Finland and Estonia. In Finland, we employ approximately 4,000 people in office operations, production plants, warehouses, and logistics across the country. Our operations create jobs and, through them, strengthen local vitality and economic development.

Value creation has a wide reach:

- **The milk chain employs** tens of thousands of people in Finland – on farms, in transports, and in production plants.
- We employ approximately 300 people as summer workers, the vast majority of them in production and logistics at various production plant sites.
- The vitality of owners ensures **domestic food supply and food availability under all circumstances**.
- The **purchases made by farms sustain rural services** throughout Finland.
