# Workplace safety

# Workplace safety is continuously improved







Everyone has the right to a safe workplace. We aim for zero injuries through active prevention and shared responsibility so that every Valio employee and everyone working at a Valio site can return home safely every day.

## Preventive safety efforts in practice



Safety is reflected in our day-to-day work.

- **Risk assessment:** We improve our ways of operating based on information gained through risk assessments, workplace surveys, employee observations, accident investigations, and internal audits.
- **Active safety observations:** We encourage our employees to immediately report all near-misses and safety shortcomings. These observations help us to identify hidden risks and take corrective action before accidents occur.
- **Continuous training and induction:** Every employee receives job-specific safety training at the start of their employment, and safety instructions are available in a language the employee understands. Regular safety briefings keep safety awareness top of mind for every Valio employee.
- **Technical safety and automation:** We continuously invest in machine guards, automation, and ergonomics. Through technical solutions, we reduce physical risks and minimize the possibility of human error in production processes.
- **Cooperation:** Improving workplace safety and wellbeing is based on cooperation. Employees participate in improving work safety through occupational health and safety committees, and personnel representative collaboration, a Group-level personnel cooperation group, and the Valio Voice survey.









## Safety standards at production plants and in logistics 

Our operations are guided by Valio’s global safety policy and safety management system procedures, which comply with the requirements of the ISO 45001 standard. We follow uniform safety standards at all of our locations, and we conduct annual internal audits to ensure compliance.

- **Use of personal protective equipment:** The use of appropriate personal protective equipment is mandatory in all specified areas, without exception.
- **Safe maintenance work:** We follow strictly defined work permit and lockout procedures to ensure safety and prevent hazardous situations during maintenance and installation work.
- **Shared responsibility for everyone:** The same high standards also apply to contractors and visitors. Safety is a shared responsibility for everyone at the site.
- We record and investigate all workplace accidents globally.
