Orfer is the 200th member of the Valio Food 2.0 ecosystem!

Valio’s Food 2.0 research, development and innovation project reached a significant milestone as secondary packaging and palletizing expert company Orfer joined the ecosystem.

At the beginning of 2024, Business Finland selected Valio as a leading company (veturiyritys), assigning it the task of building, over five years, an ecosystem of at least one hundred companies and organizations connected to the food system. This ecosystem aims to develop the food system of the future through joint research and development projects. Developing the food system is essential, as climate change is increasing the importance of northern regions in global food production. Globally, there will be more people to feed, and due to the planet’s limited carrying capacity, food must be produced more sustainably than it is today.

“A sustainable food system of the future is built on the principles of the circular economy, and circularity is achieved through collaboration between different actors. That is why this ecosystem and the development and innovation work it enables are crucial for building the food system of tomorrow. Moreover, the innovations developed here in Finland have export potential – Finland has the opportunity to become a food nation larger than its size,” says Veera Virtanen, Ecosystem Lead for the Food 2.0 project.

“We want to help accelerate the green transition of the Finnish food industry in close cooperation with other pioneers in the ecosystem. Orfer’s automation systems help our clients save on packaging materials, reduce waste, and minimize the transportation of empty space in logistics. Through our comprehensive lifecycle services, we ensure the performance of these automation systems throughout their entire lifecycle.

We bring Finland’s leading expertise in secondary packaging and palletizing automation to the ecosystem for the benefit of its members. With this expertise, we can work together to directly impact the cost-efficiency of domestic food production and communicate the benefits of automation to other members,” says Jussi Muikku, CEO of Orfer.

Orfer is a family-owned company founded in 1970, specializing in automation systems for secondary packaging and palletizing. Orfer’s solutions help customers save packaging materials and reduce space-intensive transport by streamlining logistics and packaging processes. All Orfer automation solutions are designed, manufactured, and test-ran in Finland.
